印地安人先發投手包爾（Trevor Bauer）在美聯冠軍賽投不滿1局就得退場，他站在投手丘上、小指不斷滴血的一幕不僅嚇到不少觀眾，連其他球員也感到訝異。
包爾因為修理無人機割傷小指，也讓他從第二戰先發延到第三戰，賽前的照片看得出來表皮被削掉一大塊，由於大聯盟禁止投手在投球時使用「外來物質」，如口水、松焦油、磨砂紙增加投球威力，OK繃也被禁止使用，包爾只投2個人次就開始流血。
紅襪投手韋蘭德（Justin Verlander）就在推特上表示，「所以OK繃是外來物質，不能用來止血，但是傷口的縫線就沒問題。」這邏輯讓韋蘭德感到不合理。
前洋基投手休斯（Phil Hughes）雖然現在改穿雙城隊制服，但仍未忘記2004年的「血襪事件」，在推特上說，「那是番茄醬啦，我們之前看過了。」
當年紅襪席林（Curt Schilling）不顧右腳踝不斷滲血的傷勢，在美聯冠軍賽第六戰投7局只失1分力壓洋基，當時許多洋基迷認為那其實是番茄醬。
不過席林在推特上表示，「不要標註我關於包爾的事，他害自己丟掉一場先發，也影響到隊友、球迷，原因卻是在玩無人機。」他還在最後加上「愚笨」的標籤。
其他球員仍是訝異居多，馬林魚高登（Dee Gordon）表示，「哇，那手指傷勢看起來有夠噁心。」運動家瓦倫西亞（Danny Valencia）表示，「這可能是系列賽的轉捩點。」皇家小聯盟球員戴克（Cody Decker）則說，「不要讓朋友玩無人機。」
